Prayer and Epiphany

When I met this 75-year old Yogini and asked her if I could photograph her in prayer, she happily agreed. As soon as I had my film loaded, she started to pray to the Lord Murga. In her native Hindi, she asked Lord Murga to come and bless us all. Tears of love and joy streamed down her face as I photographed her in prayer. She cried openly as she repeated the name of the Divine.

After the shoot, I was told by another elder that this Yogini is sometimes so intoxicated by her love of God that she is seen running through the streets to the Temple of Shakti. Once there, she throws herself down on the floor in a full pranam as an offering to the Divine.
